Spouses To Teachers Expands To Pacific

Military spouses living overseas and interested in a professional and portable teaching career now enjoy access to the Spouses to Teachers program. Following an expansion into Europe last year, the DoD program for teaching professionals is now available for spouses searching for employment in Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Korea, the Philippines and Japan (including Okinawa).

Spouses to Teachers provides information about state-specific educational requirements, teaching credentials and scholarship options, including reimbursement of up to $600 for teacher certification exams.

In the continental U.S., Spouses to Teachers currently is offered in 14 states: California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Virginia. Since it began in 2004, about 475 spouses have been hired in teaching positions and more than 1,500 spouses have been reimbursed for teacher certification exams through the program’s assistance.
