New Personal Finance Website

Fall 2004

The University of Maryland, which already offers an extensive selection of online programs for military personnel around the world, has launched a new personal finance website specifically tailored to the needs of military personnel and their families. Consumer loan giant Household International funded the site through a $2 million sponsorship.

The site is accessible through the university’s website (www.umuc.edu) and provides financial education specific to the lifestyle of military families, as well as general information on basic budgeting skills, debt and credit management, saving and investing, and how to make major purchases.

The grant monies include $500,000 to establish the Household Military Family Scholarship Fund, designed to offer financial assistance to active-duty military members and their spouses. All scholarships are need-based, and military tuition assistance must be exhausted before eligibility can be determined.
