Military Families To Receive Personal Finance Training Through Military Money Magazine
InCharge® Institute and the National Military Family Association Partner to Offer Free Publication
(ORLANDO, Fla.) September 16, 2003 - In conjunction with the Department of Defense's "Financial Readiness Campaign," InCharge® Institute of America, a non-profit organization specializing in personal finance education and credit counseling, and the National Military Family Association, today released the first issue of Military MoneySM, the first ever personal finance and lifestyle magazine and accompanying website targeted at families of military service members.
Military Money is being distributed with the support of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy. The magazine will address such personal finance issues as money management, home and family life for military families, career advice, deployment and relocation, and transitioning to the civilian world.
"Military spouses - mostly young women, often with very young families and just beginning to think about their futures - face the same struggles as their civilian counterparts, but with an additional set of unique challenges," explains Rebecca Stiehl, executive editor of Military Money. "Before Military Money, there was no such publication that addressed these challenges. InCharge Institute is very proud to be able to provide this important information to this important group of people."
"The families of our military personnel are some of this nation's greatest heroes," says Robert Barrett, president and chief executive of InCharge Institute. "Military families take on tremendous responsibility when their spouses are sent overseas, providing vital and often unglorified family support so that our military can focus on defending our country. These families deserve this country's support. I applaud the Department of Defense for its attention to this critical issue, and InCharge Institute is proud to be able to play a role."
Military Money will be distributed free of charge through selected United States-based military bases, commissaries and family centers. It will be launched as a quarterly publication, with circulation beginning at approximately 100,000. The website, www.militarymoney.com, will complement the magazine with additional content, calculators, surveys and other interactive tools.
