Commissaries Hit The Road For Reservists

Summer 2008

The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) is boosting efforts to reach out to National Guard and Reserve members who have earned the commissary benefit but cannot easily travel to a local store to shop on a regular basis. Full commissary benefits for members of the Ready Reserve were first authorized in 2004.

Since more than half of Guard and Reserve units are located more than 20 miles away from a commissary, DeCA's "Bringing the Benefit to You" campaign takes a bit of the commissary itself to units through onsite truckload case-lot sales. During 2007, the commissary agency held onsite sales at 21 Guard and Reserve locations. During the first three months of 2008, onsite sales already had occurred at 11 locations.

In addition to supporting Guard and Reserve members, these sales are open to all authorized commissary customers. For a full schedule of onsite sales, visit www.commissaries.com/guard_reserve_sales.cfm.
