Give a gift of groceries this holiday season! Gift certificates may be purchased through your local commissary, a toll-free phone number (1-877-770-4438) or the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) website at www.commissaries.com (click the link to "The Gift of Groceries").
"Whether it's for a national or installation charity, families of deployed servicemembers or simply as a gift for your neighbor, [anyone] can help support military families with commissary gift certificates," says DeCA's Patrick B. Nixon.
Applications for the 2006 Scholarships for Military Children program also are available at your commissary or online at www.militaryscholar.org and www.commissaries.com. The program, run by the Fisher House Foundation and funded by grocery suppliers in the commissary system, awarded $1,500 scholarships to 500 students last year.
