Fall 2008
In 2005, Pentagon employees wanting to honor the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks created what is becoming a tradition: the America Supports You Freedom Walk. More than 15,000 people walked from the Pentagon to the National Mall to renew their commitment to our values and honor our veterans. Since then, nearly 400 Freedom Walks have occurred in all 50 states.
America Supports You encourages every city to plan a walk that best exemplifies its community. Walks can be held every in the morning, during the lunch hour or after work. They can occur on Sept. 11 or near that date, depending on local traffic patterns. However they are organized, Freedom Walks are a wonderful opportunity for cities, workplaces, schools or citizen groups to remember the day and those protecting our freedom.
