Spring 2005
"G.I. Jobs," a magazine that helps military family members transition to civilian employment, released its list of the nation's Top 25 Most Military Friendly Employers. The list was based on criteria such as the strength of a company's military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service and policies toward Guard and Reserve service.
The winner: Home Depot, thanks largely to its Store Leadership Program which fast-tracks new hires to manage a store in about two years. More than half of program participants are junior military officers.
Rounding out the top dozen, in descending order: Sprint, General Electric, Brinks, Johnson Controls, Union Pacific, Lockheed Martin, American Electric Power, USAA, EDS, Georgia Pacific and Manpower.
